magicsandwiches: Stockings (probably not the ones hung by the chimney with care, but who knows?).

To all you historical fashion buffs out there (you know who you are): What kind of stockings does Cheney wear? Thigh highs? Tights? What?

I need to know so I can laugh at Lynn and Gil glossing over certain implications made in book four.

So after the OVERWHELMING popularity of the last post I made (and yes, five people responding to a CDMD poll in 2008 IS overwhelming), here are more thoughts:

Obviously and alas, no one is comfortable writing porn, aside from my much-read, much adulated masterpiece written circa 2003, which was truly porn only if you're a sheltered homeschooled teenager. So scratch that. What we DO want is the funny and the amusing. I think it would be fun to come up with several plots for shortish stories, then trade them.

Such as:

AU fic, set in the same time as the series. Cheney's life is identical to canon, but Shiloh's parents were never shipwrecked, and he grew up as the pampered son of a shipping magnate together with his cousin/bff/possible half-brother Bain. Immediately after the Civil War, Bain and Shiloh (and other family members? who knows) travel to New York for business, meet the Duvalls, and hilarity ensues. Extra points for crack, love triangles, smarmy relationship between Bain and Shiloh (I'm thinking a Chuck/Nate dynamic here, so you may be relieved of your concerns), and a sub-plot shamelessly ripped off from Les Liaisons Dangereuses.

But anyway. We each produce a plot-starter like that, then are randomly assigned one or choose one that's not our own. Fics should be short, between 1000-2000 words, and no multi-chaptered stuff. Unless you get REALLY INVOLVED.

And as I said in my previous post, no re-reads necessary. I'm just as interested in reading a fic wherein Bain acts more like the Joker and Shiloh like Harvey Dent as I am in reading something super-canonical. But hey, canon's good too.

ETA: thought of another one: AU Firefly/Cheney crossover. YOU KNOW IT WOULD WORK.

Three years since anyone's posted in this comm.

I think...we should have some kind of ficathon. Short. Silly. Potentially anonymous. The problem being that too many of us can recognize our distinctive writing styles.

For some reason* I am actually engaging in Cheney-related discussion on the board, and really, I'm afraid I might scare this poor girl to death because I am all "AAH, SHIPPYNESS!" If anyone else wishes to join... by all means. Make it more fun. It is better than writing a paper on hell, I can tell you that much.

perdu_01: Heya

I finally got around to posting on this lj community. I am Perdu. I have been absent for a while related to real life issues (namely college).

Let the insanity begin.

*laugh* Very nice icon, whomever made it. How fitting. Shiloh has lost his soul. He used to be distinctively Shiloh, but now he's just Standard Christian Fiction Hero. Only in Christian fiction does one lose one's soul upon receiving salvation.

By the way, to anyone who doesn't know, this is FIM. Foot In Mouth, that is.

For those that may be wondering, Dwight was a butler who contracted cholera in book three. We never found out if he lived or died. It was very random. He was in a scene polishing silver, and then he was never mentioned again.

Nice job, whoever made it. Truly, having no arms or hands is a terrible, terrible thing.

hoppytoad79: Hello, all

Any predictions on what the next CDMD novel will be like? Other than Carboard!Shiloh and Perfect!Christian!Cheney and Reformed!Bain, of course...*winces* Reformed!Bain is just NOT right. That creature has all the appeal of overcooked oatmeal.
